[Dprglist] Creating a line following course with tape on wood floor - safe for the floor?

Just as an additional data point, while gaffers tape is always the go-to tape to use for floors or sensitive surfaces, I have been in a couple of environments with fairly old vinyl tile/wood floors where the gaffers tape did some damage, even for a short-term (<1 day) application.  These were really old floors, though; the adhesive of the vinyl tiles completely gave way from being so old, and the wooden floor already had issues with a badly applied urethane coating (the organization was planning to completely replace the floors anyway, so they didn't mind the "damage").

In FTC we often apply gaffers tape to our foam tiles and leave them there for the better part of a year; at the end of the year the tape will generally leave a mark (and sometimes damage the tile) when it's removed.

So to echo Karim, I always use gaffers tape in these floor-taping situations, but it's not a perfect solution.  I'd be reluctant to tape my hardwood floor directly, but I also have other options (foam tiles etc) that I can use to create a robot playing surface.
