<div class="ss-section-description ss-no-ignore-whitespace" style="margin-top:0.5em;white-space:pre-wrap;word-wrap:break-word;">As we've been discussing in each Tuesday night 'robot builders night virtual' since the idea surfaced 11 Aug.
This contest is a no-brainer for these pandemic times - and it already clearly has enough support - it seems clear we're gonna do this one!
Concept
DPRG provides an open source simulator based on the Processing IDE and sample robot controller code (HUGE thanks to pioneers Ron Grant and Will Kuhnle!).
Contestants create a virtual robot & write controller code that can follow a line in the virtual environment.
We have a large web meeting on contest day.
Contestants submit their controller software, and judges run each in the same / standard simulator.
This one is all free and all virtual.
You can do it all with open-source code.
No need to purchase hardware, or risk screws and wires falling off when you carry your robot around.
The simulation environment is in work - but we think you will be able to submit compiled code if you want to protect your controller - or you can share your controller with the world in clear text.

o an API based client/ server architecture that better separates robot controller from simulation environment

o provide basic real-world effects modelling, e.g. of noisy sensors...
