Before GPS satellites were launched, cruise missiles used radar, maps, and intelligence. I suppose what the article is pointing out is that a complete map is not needed, but then, the cruise missiles only had crude maps.

Hmmm... Cool?
They say: "Drones which can find their own way won't have to depend on GPS.." which seems to imply that they haven't really got it working yet. However, the jBot robot can find it's way to a destination without GPS so it seems like it's quite doable.
