Whether you're attending DPRGs RoboRama <https://dprgblog.wordpress.com/>
or the Wild West Robot Rumble
<http://roboplex.org/event/fll2016-wild-west-robot-rumble/> on the 13th,
this Saturday (May 6th) there is a free Sumo Workshop sponsored by the DPRG
at the Dallas Makerspace
<https://www.dprg.org/plastic-fastener-sumo-workshop/>. This is your chance
to pre-test your design against other competitors or get help with that
programming or mechanical issue you're having. The line following course
will also be available.
If you've never done Sumo before, here's what it looks like:

A basic sumobot is a simple build. Here is an example to get you started:
http://nxtprograms.com/mini_sumo/steps.html
Start by making your robot charge forward while staying in the ring. If you
get that working take the next step and add an ultrasonic to hunt your
opponent. *Plastic Fastener (LEGO or VexIQ) Sumobots *need to fit within a
1 foot square footprint and weigh under 1200 grams. Full rules can be
found here:
https://dprgblog.wordpress.com/rules/
Teams are also encouraged to try the novice line-following
<https://dprgblog.files.wordpress.com/2016/03/line_following_v20150412.pdf>
competition.
*Students compete in Roborama for free*. Prizes have included full robot
kits. There is room for only 40 sumo robots, so please register soon:

*To recap:*
May 6th - Sumo Workshop at the Dallas Makerspace
<https://www.dprg.org/plastic-fastener-sumo-workshop/>
May 13th - RoboRama Plastic Fastener Sumo and Novice Line Following
Competitions <https://dprgblog.wordpress.com/>
For both events, you bring your own bots, parts and programming tools. DPRG
members will provide assistance. An adult needs to accompany and remain
with each team of students - this is not a drop-off activity, but adults
can tour the Makerspace. If you can't make the workshop, at least check out
