As a reminder -
There's a great looking Meetup coming this Saturday 7 Jan - details below.
There are at least 3 of us planning to go - maybe we'll see more of y'all..
Also, one of the organizers asked if I could convince anybody to bring a robot or two. They're thinking it could be possible e.g. To find more people interested to participate with DPRG, and even enter e.g. the 6-Can competition... Sounds like there are over 40 participants already expected...

> Hackster DFW is excited to announce a Saturday build workshop powered by Intel! Ten rover kits will be available to loan out during the meetup! Obviously there might not be enough hardware for everyone to have exclusive access to a kit so we will split up into teams. Also you might consider bringing your own chassis, Arduino 101 board, and motor driver if you want to keep what you build. If you bring an Arduino 101 we will be learning the basics of the board. You are welcome to work on other projects too, we have grove sensor kits and a lot of other hardware to hack with.

> The meetup will start by going through the basics then go over the distinct features of the Arduino 101 board. We will load simple sketches then move on to more advanced features such as Blutooth Low Energy (BLE) and Inertia Measurement Unit (IMU) that is built in to the Arduino 101. https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/ArduinoBoard101
>
> After that we will attach the electronics to the chassis, program the buggy, then build a BLE remote from our laptops or phones. From there lets continue adding to the base project and build some awesome things!

>
> 1. Download, familiarize, and play with this software:
>
> • The latest Arduino IDE, Install it on a laptop to bring https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Software
>
> • Blynk (Iphone or Android) In your app store.
>
> • nRF Toolbox (Iphone or Android) In your app store.
>
> • It is also possible to run Blynk on PC using Android emulators but I don't know much about this.
>
> • If you would like to try to control the Arduino 101 from your laptop using some third party instructions that uses Johnny five and node.js, make sure your laptop supports BLE!
>
> 2. There is a limited amount of loaner hardware so consider at the very least grabbing an Arduino 101.
>
> • Microcenter is the cheapest source for Arduino 101 boards that I have seen. $20.00 http://www.microcenter.com/product/460273/Arduino_101_with_Intel_Curie
>
> • Or consider trying to get A FREE ARDUINO 101 FROM HACKSTER.IO! Go to the Arduino 101 - Invent Your Future! Contest https://www.hackster.io/contests/Intel-Arduino-101 . Submit a great idea and promise to document your build and they might send you a free board!
>
> • The Chassis we are using is a Dagu DG012, you can use anything though, I will show off a 3d printed quadruped platform too.
>
> • You will probably want a motor shield to run your motors, we will be using the Adafruit Motor/Stepper shield V2 https://www.adafruit.com/products/1438

> If you have a project that you're interested in doing, we can loan out hardware to you. We have Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Particle Photon, Intel Edison, Tessel, NXP boards, Creator boards, Rover Kits, Hardware kits, and lots more. All you have to do is to attend more than one meetup, create a new project at Hackster.io https://www.hackster.io/projects/new
> , describe what you want to do, then send us a link. Return the hardware when you're done or in about 60. WE HAVE HACKSTER SWAGS OR MIGHT LET YOU KEEP THE BORROWED HARDWARE WHEN YOU COMPLETE YOUR HACKSTER PROJECT POST AND SHARE IT WITH! More info will be provided about rewards during the meetup.
